Montpellier have signed Franco-Cameroonian attacking midfielder Gregory Ayem from Racing CFF on a free transfer. The 20-year-old has agreed a deal with the Ligue 2 club running until 30 June 2029.

Ayem, who was born in Saint-Denis and holds both French and Cameroonian nationality, moves south after leaving Racing CFF, where he had been playing in the French third tier’s National 1 Group A. He is expected to operate primarily as an attacking midfielder, offering a right-footed option between the lines.

The 1.85m playmaker joins Montpellier at the start of the 2026-27 campaign as the club reshape their squad for life in Ligue 2. He has been handed the number 90 shirt and will now step up from the semi-professional ranks into a fully professional environment.

Ayem developed his game at Racing CFF before earning this move up the pyramid, and his switch continues the pathway of young talent progressing from the Paris region into higher divisions. His versatility in advanced midfield roles adds depth to Montpellier’s options behind the forwards.

The midfielder’s long-term contract to 2029 underlines Montpellier’s commitment to integrating him into their plans over several seasons, with the transfer completed on a free following the end of his spell at Racing CFF.
