It’s official, and his tenure will be effective starting Saturday.
Following Jean Fernandez’s resignation, who stepped down after Montpellier’s recent defeat (0-2) against Lorient on the 16th day of Ligue 1, Rolland Courbis is set to take charge in Montpellier.
Last weekend, MHSC President Louis Nicollin surprised many by acknowledging he had “made a stupid mistake” in hiring Jean Fernandez.
The 60-year-old coach is expected to sign a contract on Monday, committing to Montpellier for 2 and a half years. Despite being the French champions in the 2011-2012 season, Montpellier currently finds itself in the 17th place in Ligue 1.
In an official press release, it was stated, “Rolland Courbis must join the Pailladin club this Monday. The man who brought Montpellier Hérault SC back to Ligue 1 4 and a half years ago has agreed to take up the challenge proposed by Louis (and) Laurent Nicollin and should therefore make his return to the Montpellier bench, announced on his website on Hérault club. He should commit for a period of 2 and a half years.”
