Montpellier’s Djamel Bakar Ready to Challenge PSG in Crucial Ligue 1 Clash
Montpellier striker Djamel Bakar is set to lead the line on Friday evening as MHSC host Paris Saint-Germain in the opening fixture of Ligue 1’s third matchday. After two consecutive defeats, Bakar believes the showdown against the reigning champions could be the turning point Montpellier needs.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated clash, Bakar admitted that PSG are clear favourites, but insisted that his side remains determined and united despite their difficult start to the season.
“Like all teams, we won’t be favourites against PSG,” Bakar told reporters. “But we’re united, we’re strong, and we believe in ourselves. We’re determined to react after two defeats. This match could kick-start our season. We’ll have nothing to lose—we just need to approach it with a clear mind.”
Montpellier’s campaign so far has been underwhelming. The opening 0–2 loss at home to newly promoted Angers, followed by a last-minute defeat to Rennes (1–0), has left Roland Courbis’ side without a point or a goal scored after two matches.
Now, facing a PSG team chasing their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title, Montpellier know that only a significant improvement—especially in attack—will give them any chance at an upset.
With zero points and three goals conceded, the pressure is mounting, but Bakar and his teammates are hoping that the challenge of facing France’s top side can inspire a reaction.
Kick-off at the Stade de la Mosson is scheduled for Friday night, with all eyes on whether Montpellier can rise to the occasion and shake off their early-season slump.
