Jean Fernandez has been appointed as the successor to René Girard at the helm of Montpellier. The former coach of Metz, Sochaux, Marseille, and Auxerre will take over the reins after the departure of Girard, who led Montpellier to the Ligue 1 championship in the previous season. Jean Fernandez, who left Nancy at the beginning of the year, has signed a two-year contract. Montpellier is currently 8th in the league standings.
