At 36, Souleymane Camara could yet extend his adventure with Montpellier.
The Senegalese striker, whose contract expires next June, remains an important figure within the Hérault club despite limited playing time this season. Author of three goals in ten Ligue 1 appearances, the experienced forward continues to show that he can still be decisive when called upon, and Montpellier’s management is now considering the possibility of offering him a contract extension.
Speaking at a press conference, head coach Michel Der Zakarian confirmed that discussions are ongoing within the club’s hierarchy.
“It’s under discussion, we’re thinking about it, we want to offer him something, but it will be between Laurent Nicollin, myself, and the whole management team,” the Montpellier coach explained.
Der Zakarian also acknowledged the delicate balance the club must find between relying on experience and preparing for the future.
“We know his age. There are also young players we need to promote, but yes, we’re aiming to keep him. The question is whether he wants to stay even if he plays very little, because his playing time was even less this year. But he’s still capable of making an impact and being effective,” he added.
A true club icon, Souleymane Camara has spent the majority of his career at Montpellier and remains highly respected in the dressing room. Even in a reduced role, his influence, professionalism, and ability to change a match off the bench continue to weigh in his favor as the club reflects on his future.
