FIFA and the Brazilian authorities are undoubtedly pleased with the overwhelming enthusiasm for the upcoming World Cup. According to FIFA, there were 3,505,656 requests for tickets to the World Cup in Brazil during the second phase of sales, a staggering number that reflects the global excitement for the event. These requests came from 199 countries and approximately 500,000 individuals, with nearly 80% of applicants being Brazilian nationals.
During this phase, FIFA allowed fans to request tickets for 62 out of the 64 matches in the final phase of the tournament. Due to the expected high demand for certain matches, tickets will be allocated through a lottery system for those matches where demand exceeds supply.
Until February 7, supporters of the 32 participating teams have the opportunity to request tickets through the FIFA.com website. Each participating country is entitled to 8% of the tickets available per match, leading to a total of 95,848 supporters requesting 585,350 tickets for their respective teams.
In total, there are three million tickets available across all twelve stadiums hosting the matches. The demand for tickets far exceeds the available quota, with requests being at least ten times larger than the number of tickets available.
