Monaco step up chase for Algeria’s Farès Ghedjemis

AS Monaco are preparing a renewed bid for Algerian winger Farès Ghedjemis after their opening offer for the Frosinone forward was rejected, with Celtic and Rangers also failing to secure a deal for the highly rated attacker.

The 23-year-old has emerged as a priority target for Monaco following an outstanding campaign in Italy’s second tier, according to L’Équipe.

Monaco’s initial proposal of €7m plus a further €2m in potential bonuses was turned down by Frosinone, but the French club are expected to return with an improved offer in the coming days.

Celtic and Rangers also miss out

The race for Ghedjemis’ signature has attracted interest from Scotland, with both Celtic and Rangers understood to have made approaches for the Algerian.

Their offers, reportedly worth around €10m, were not accepted by Frosinone, who are holding firm over their valuation of the winger.

Ghedjemis is reportedly attracted to the prospect of moving to Ligue 1, potentially giving Monaco an advantage in the competition for his signature.

Standout season in Italy

Ghedjemis joined Frosinone three years ago after spells with Vannes and FC Rouen and has gradually established himself as an important member of the Italian club’s squad.

His breakthrough campaign came last season when he was named Serie B Player of the Season after an impressive return of 15 goals and three assists in 37 league appearances.

Those performances also earned him recognition at international level with Algeria.

World Cup opportunity follows breakthrough

Ghedjemis’ form convinced Algeria coach Vladimir Petković to include him in the squad for the World Cup in the United States.

The winger’s rise from French lower-league football to becoming one of Serie B’s standout performers has now put him on the radar of several clubs across Europe.

With Monaco preparing another offer, the coming days could determine whether Ghedjemis begins the next chapter of his career in Ligue 1 or remains in Italy.
