Monaco near agreement with Metz for Senegal Defender Sadibou Sané
AS Monaco are closing in on the signing of Senegalese centre-back Sadibou Sané, with negotiations reportedly at an advanced stage with Ligue 1 rivals FC Metz over a permanent transfer.
According to reports in France, both clubs are now close to reaching a full agreement that would see the highly rated young defender make a major step up in his career, moving from Metz to one of Ligue 1’s most ambitious sides.
The deal is believed to be structured at around €7 million, with an additional €3 million in performance-related bonuses, taking the potential total package to €10 million. If finalised, the transfer would represent a significant investment by Monaco in one of Senegal’s emerging defensive talents.
Sané, who has impressed with his maturity and defensive awareness despite his age, is expected to sign a long-term contract running for five years, keeping him at the Principality club until 2031. The move is seen as part of Monaco’s continued strategy of recruiting promising young players and developing them into top-level performers in European football.
The 21-year-old has steadily risen through the ranks at Metz, earning recognition for his composure, physical strength, and ability to read the game. His performances have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from several clubs before Monaco moved to the front of the queue.
For Metz, the potential departure marks another example of the club’s role in developing young talent before moving them on to bigger platforms in France and beyond. While the loss will be felt, the financial terms of the deal are expected to provide significant reinvestment opportunities for the club.
Monaco, meanwhile, view Sané as a long-term defensive addition capable of strengthening their backline and adding depth ahead of their domestic and European ambitions.
If the final details are agreed, Sané will complete his move to the Stade Louis-II in the coming days, marking an important milestone in his development and a major step forward in his professional career in Ligue 1.
