Leonardo Jardim Confirmed as AS Monaco Head Coach
After weeks of speculation linking him to the role, Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim has officially been appointed as the new head coach of AS Monaco. The club confirmed the appointment on Thursday, announcing that Jardim and his coaching staff will take charge of the professional squad when training resumes on June 30.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Jardim told Monaco TV, “I am very happy to work in Monaco because it is a great club. I believe very strongly in this project and I think that we will do a good job together with the group. AS Monaco is a team with quality players. There are a lot of talented young players. I will do everything to help them progress.”
Demonstrating his commitment to fully integrating into the club and community, Jardim revealed he has already begun learning French, saying, “The first thing is to learn to speak French. I have been taking lessons for a few days, it is a question of respect for the supporters, the people at the club and Ligue 1.”
According to reports from the International Foot agency, Jardim has signed a three-year contract with the principality club.
Jardim arrives with an impressive track record in Portuguese football. He guided Chaves to the third division title in 2009 and secured the second division championship with Beira-Mar in 2010. His success continued with top-flight teams, finishing third with Braga in 2012 and second this season with Sporting Lisbon.
Monaco’s appointment of Jardim signals an ambitious project aiming to develop young talent and re-establish the club as a force in Ligue 1 and European football. Fans will be hoping Jardim’s experience and tactical acumen translate into success on the pitch in the seasons ahead.
