The news of Monaco defender Eric Abidal being admitted to the hospital in the Principality sparked panic, especially given his history of overcoming a liver transplant. However, it was quickly revealed that he was treated due to contraindicated medication for an influenza virus, according to sources close to him.
His loved ones gathered at his bedside throughout the day, but fortunately, the situation was not as serious as initially feared. Abidal himself reassured his fans on Twitter, stating that he would be leaving the hospital the following day and returning to training with Monaco.
Eric Abidal’s journey back to football after his liver transplant in 2012 has been remarkable. He made a return to competition with Barcelona before joining Monaco at the beginning of the season. He also made a comeback to the French national team last summer, although he was not selected for the upcoming friendly match against the Netherlands.
His agent, David Venditelli, emphasized that the situation was merely a precautionary check-up related to medication he took for his flu, and not a cause for alarm.
