Mohammed Marzuq Yahaya: Nigerian striker joins Balzan FC after spell without club

Nigerian centre-forward Mohammed Marzuq Yahaya has joined Balzan FC, ending his spell without a club by signing for the Maltese Premier League side. The 22-year-old has agreed a deal running until 30 June 2027.

Yahaya arrives at Balzan as a free agent after leaving Czech side Pardubice in April 2026, and will add height and physical presence to the club’s attack at 1.93m tall. His move to Malta marks the latest step in a career that has taken him through senior football in the Czech Republic following his development in youth systems.

The forward built his reputation across the Czech leagues, making more than 80 senior appearances in all competitions. He featured regularly in the FNL (also known as the Czech National Football League), where he scored six goals and provided one assist in 30 games, and added further goals in the MOL Cup and lower-tier CFL during his time there.

Yahaya’s path to Balzan included spells at SFC Opava and SILON Taborsko on loan from Pardubice, having initially moved to Czech football with Slavia Prague’s under-19 side after an earlier stint at KIFA. His contract in Malta gives him a first opportunity to establish himself in a top-flight European division.

Balzan’s new signing is registered as a centre-forward and will be available for selection for the Premier League Opening Round campaign under the terms of his deal through to summer 2027.
