Mohamed Sherif agrees season-long loan move to Iraqi club Al-Shorta
Mohamed Sherif has reached a final agreement to join Al-Shorta on a season-long loan from Al Ahly, according to a source close to the striker.
The deal is understood to be subject only to the completion of the final details before it is formally announced.
A source close to Sherif told FilGoal.com: “Mohamed Sherif has reached an agreement with Al-Shorta to move for one season on loan.”
The source added: “Only the final details separate the two parties before the official announcement.”
Sherif had hoped to remain with Al Ahly, but believes the move to Al-Shorta will give him a stronger opportunity to play regularly and demonstrate his ability before returning to the Egyptian club.
The 30-year-old spent last season with Al Ahly after returning to the club at the start of the campaign following two seasons with Saudi Arabian side Al-Khaleej.
He made 20 appearances for Al Ahly last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
Al Ahly had been attempting to reach an agreement with Sherif to terminate his contract by mutual consent. However, he is now set to leave on loan, with his existing deal at the club running until the summer of 2030.
The proposed move comes after Al Ahly strengthened their attacking options during the current summer transfer window. The club signed three new forwards: Moroccan striker Soufiane Benjdida, Algerian forward Monsef Bekrar and Enppi player Abdallah Ektay.
Sherif’s return to Al Ahly followed his spell in Saudi Arabia, where he spent two seasons with Al-Khaleej before rejoining the Cairo club at the beginning of the previous season.
The forward will now have the chance to continue his career in Iraq, with Al-Shorta providing a new setting in which he can seek regular first-team football. The source said Sherif was confident the loan would be a positive step, despite his preference to continue with Al Ahly.
The agreement is expected to be announced officially once the remaining formalities have been completed.
The report also included an update on another Al Ahly player, Omar Kamal. The club’s management has decided to provide Kamal with his release document, allowing him to choose the team he will join next season.
Kamal spent the second half of last season on loan from Al Ahly at Ceramica Cleopatra.
The 32-year-old has made 51 appearances for Al Ahly, scoring six goals and supplying 11 assists.
