Mohamed Salah’s post-Liverpool future takes a Turkish turn with Trabzonspor
Mohamed Salah’s next club is moving closer to being decided, with Trabzonspor emerging as the leading destination after a transfer race involving clubs from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Spain.
The Turkish club has formally announced that it has begun negotiations with Salah and has also set a date for the player’s arrival in Turkey. His visit is expected to allow the remaining procedures for a potential move to Trabzonspor to be completed.
That development follows a period in which Salah’s name was linked with several different projects after his departure from Liverpool. What began as a contest between a number of interested clubs quickly became one of the most prominent transfer stories of recent days.
Besiktas was among the Turkish clubs connected with the Egypt captain. Interest also came from Saudi Arabia, where Al-Ittihad and Al-Diriyah were both mentioned as possible destinations. In Spain, Atletico Madrid was another club associated with the player before the focus shifted back towards Turkey.
The list of possible moves reflected the contrasting options available to Salah. Each club represented a different sporting and footballing project, with its own potential advantages and challenges. However, it was Trabzonspor that eventually gained the clearest momentum by making its interest official and taking practical steps towards completing negotiations.
The announcement of talks marked a significant change in the situation. Rather than remaining one name among several in an active transfer market, Salah became directly connected with a specific process involving a formal approach and a planned arrival in Turkey.
That does not yet mean the transfer has been completed. The negotiations still need to be finalised, while the procedures surrounding the player’s move remain to be concluded. Nevertheless, Trabzonspor’s public confirmation has placed the club in the strongest position so far in the race for Salah.
The main question now is whether Trabzonspor is the right choice for the former Liverpool player. The move would bring an end to the uncertainty that followed his departure from the Premier League club, but it would also represent a decision between several markedly different destinations.
Salah’s name has therefore travelled from Besiktas to Al-Ittihad, from Al-Diriyah to Atletico Madrid, and finally to Trabzonspor. The sequence underlines how open his next step appeared to be before the Turkish club acted decisively.
For now, the available information points towards Trabzonspor as the practical winner of the transfer race. Its announcement that negotiations have started, together with the arrangements for Salah to reach Turkey, has made the proposed move more advanced than the other options mentioned.
Whether it proves to be the correct decision remains the central issue. The answer will depend on how the talks conclude and whether the choice of Trabzonspor matches what Salah is seeking at this stage of his career.
