Football pundit Jamie Carragher believes prolific Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah will likely remain at Liverpool due to limited options for a lucrative contract elsewhere.
Carragher pointed out that top clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are either financially constrained or already have ample attacking talent.
He emphasized that only a handful of teams can realistically compete for the Champions League, and Liverpool is among them.
Quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Carragher said: “I love Mo Salah, he’s one of the best players in the world, but the reason I say (he won’t have many other options) is because of his age.
“When you’re on that type of money and you’re talking about getting a raise – a raise isn’t 10 or 20 grand a week.
“How many attackers do Real Madrid have? Barcelona are in dire straits financially, PSG are nowhere near the team Liverpool are – there are only four or five teams that can realistically win the Champions League and Liverpool are one of them.
“He will stay as I’m not sure there are too many options. He’s not ready to go to Saudi – he can do that in three years’ time.
“Salah is that driven as a footballer to win the record of most goals – or whatever that may be for Liverpool.”
With the two-time African Footballer of the Year’s current contract expiring next summer, he has not shown interest in moving to Saudi Arabia, preferring to focus on winning more titles with Liverpool, but has been vocal about his frustration with the club not offering him a new contract.
Recent reports indicate that Salah is nearing a two-year contract extension with Liverpool, resolving previous disagreements over the length of the deal.
