Wayne Rooney urges Liverpool to drop Mohamed Salah amid form concerns

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has addressed the impending departure of Mohamed Salah for the first time, delivering a glowing tribute to the forward as his Anfield chapter nears its conclusion.

With the Egyptian set to exit at the end of the season, Slot was unequivocal in his assessment: Salah’s legacy is already secured among the club’s all-time greats.

The 33-year-old attacker will leave on a free transfer, drawing the curtain on a transformative era that began with his £34 million arrival from AS Roma in June 2017.

Over the course of eight prolific seasons, Salah has evolved into one of Liverpool’s most decisive figures, amassing 310 appearances, 189 goals and 92 assists while helping to restore the club’s domestic and European dominance.

Slot’s remarks are particularly notable given earlier tensions this season, when Salah suggested he had been “thrown under the bus” by the Dutchman.

However, any friction now appears firmly in the past, with the Liverpool boss choosing instead to highlight the forward’s enduring impact and professionalism as the campaign enters its decisive phase.

“Hopefully he can make his legacy even more special in the upcoming weeks and months where we still play for something special. But he will always leave this club as a legend because, as I said, the way this club has performed in the last seasons is also for a large part due to what he’s done for it.

“Scoring goals, having his assists. As I said, as a fan I watched him and that front three with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino… everybody is still talking about that, and rightly so.”

“And then when I started working with him, I don’t know if it was his best season in terms of numbers, but it was an impressive season because he had the most goals and the most assists and I don’t know if that has happened much with him, let alone with any player in the Premier League.

“He will definitely leave as a legend of this club.”

Salah, currently Liverpool’s third-highest scorer of all time with 255 goals, is expected to feature in the club’s final seven Premier League fixtures before bidding farewell to supporters at Anfield on the closing day of the season, marking the end of one of the most influential careers in modern Liverpool history.
