Mohamed Salah urged to ‘stay in Europe’ by Egypt director
Egypt’s football director Ibrahim Hassan has advised Mohamed Salah to prioritise a move within Europe’s elite leagues as speculation intensifies over the forward’s future following his impending departure from Liverpool FC.
Salah’s exit from Anfield, confirmed last week, will bring an end to a glittering nine-year spell that has cemented his legacy as one of the club’s modern greats.
With interest already emerging from multiple destinations, including Major League Soccer side Inter Miami CF, attention has quickly shifted to where the Egyptian captain will continue his career.
However, Hassan has made it clear he does not believe a move to the United States would be in Salah’s best sporting interest at this stage. Speaking to On Sports, he cautioned that relocating outside Europe’s traditional football spotlight could diminish the player’s global visibility and competitive edge.
“Personally, I’m not convinced about him signing for the American league,” Hassan said. “He would be too far from the spotlight. Nobody will remember Salah anymore.”
Instead, Hassan strongly recommends that Salah remains within Europe’s top competitions, pointing to reported interest from clubs in France and Italy as more suitable options for a player still performing at the highest level.
His stance reflects a broader belief that Salah, despite his achievements, still has much to offer in the game’s most demanding environments.
“For me, I think Salah’s priority should be to stay in Europe. I’ve heard about offers from France and the Italian league, so my advice is that he should choose that route,” he added.
Should a move within Europe fail to materialise, Hassan identified Saudi Arabia as a viable alternative, highlighting the growing stature of the Saudi Pro League and its increasing concentration of global stars, including Cristiano Ronaldo.
“He should opt for one of the top clubs, such as Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr, and Al-Ahli,” Hassan noted, while expressing confidence in Salah’s judgment regarding his next step.
