Liverpool’s 2–1 home defeat to Manchester City added another frustrating chapter to Mohamed Salah’s season against the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
The Egyptian forward started at Anfield but failed to register a goal or assist, extending a worrying pattern in high-profile league matches.
This campaign, Salah has drawn a blank in all his appearances against the traditional heavyweights. He did not contribute directly to the scoreline in the narrow 1–0 win over Arsenal in the first round, nor in the 2–1 defeats to Chelsea and Manchester United.
Liverpool also lost 3–0 away to Manchester City earlier in the season, with Salah again unable to make an impact. His absence from recent clashes with Tottenham and the second Arsenal meeting was due to his commitments with the Egypt national team.
What makes this dip more striking is Salah’s historic record against the same opponents. Over previous seasons, he has scored 13 goals versus Manchester City, 16 against Tottenham, 11 against Arsenal, 8 against Chelsea and 16 against Manchester United in all competitions, underlining how unusual this dry spell is for Liverpool’s talisman.
