Mohamed Salah needs one more goal contribution to equal the Premier League record for an individual season

Mohamed Salah has shared the deep reason behind the moment that saw him crying openly in front of Liverpool supporters at Anfield.

The Egyptian forward said he was not ready to face the wave of emotions that struck him after the death of his teammate Diogo Jota.

Salah was overcome just after Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League opener last month. It was the first time he had stepped on the pitch since the tragic car crash on July 3 in Spain that claimed the lives of Jota, 28, and his younger brother, Andre Silva.

After sealing victory with Liverpool’s fourth goal, Salah walked toward the Kop as usual to thank the fans. But when the crowd began chanting Jota’s name, the sadness he had been carrying poured out in tears.

Speaking on the “Men In Blazers” podcast, Salah admitted he could not hold back, saying: “It was very difficult for me, because I was not prepared for such a moment.”

He added that the sight of fans grieving with him made the pain even heavier.
