Mohamed Salah set for Trabzonspor signing ceremony on Thursday, Turkish broadcaster reports

Mohamed Salah is expected to complete his move to Trabzonspor on Thursday, with a signing ceremony reportedly scheduled at the club’s Papara Park stadium.

Turkish broadcaster HT Spor says the former Liverpool forward will be officially presented after agreeing a two-year contract with the Turkish club.

Salah is due to arrive in Istanbul at 12:00 on Wednesday to complete the formalities before the transfer is announced, according to Turkish journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu, who specialises in the transfer market.

Trabzonspor are understood to have won the race to sign the Egypt international after competing with several clubs, including Besiktas.

Sabuncuoglu reported that Salah had reached a final agreement with Trabzonspor over a two-season deal.

The Turkish newspaper Sabah had previously said Salah was close to joining the club after Trabzonspor submitted an improved offer. The report said he would travel to Turkey on Wednesday if he accepted the proposal.

Trabzonspor have reportedly offered Salah an annual salary of 17m euros, along with additional bonuses. Turkish website Ajansspor said the package includes 5m euros in potential bonuses per season, as well as 20% of shirt-sales revenue.

The club is also expected to provide a private jet for Salah from Greece, where he is spending his holiday, so that he can travel to Turkey on Wednesday ahead of the formal announcement.

French website Foot Mercato has also reported that Trabzonspor are close to signing the former Liverpool player.

Besiktas withdrew from negotiations with Salah after failing to meet the financial demands made by his agent, Ramy Abbas, according to the report.

There had also been previous reports of an offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad for the Egypt captain.

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has previously refused to confirm whether the club had reached an agreement with Salah.

“Who would not want to sign a player like Mohamed Salah? I also hope so, but until this moment there is no agreement,” Dogan told Turkish channel A Spor.

“I do not want to talk about whether we have contacted Mohamed Salah or not. As the president of the club, I must protect the interests of Trabzonspor, so we have to choose our words carefully,” he added.

“If there is any new development regarding the transfers, we will inform our fans and the public immediately,” Dogan said.

Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season after nine years at the club. He previously played for the Reds during a period in which he established himself as one of the leading forwards in world football.

Trabzonspor have previously had Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” and Ayman Abdelaziz among their players.

The Turkish side will compete in the Europa League next season, beginning in the qualifying play-off round for a place in the main phase of the competition.

Trabzonspor finished third in the Turkish league last season.

Salah also returned from the World Cup with Egypt after their elimination by Argentina in the last 16.
