Mohamed Salah set for Trabzonspor move after Turkish club approves merchandise deal

Mohamed Salah is close to completing a move to Trabzonspor after the Turkish club agreed to a special clause in the former Liverpool forward’s proposed contract.

Reports in the Turkish media have said Salah has reached an agreement to join Trabzonspor during the current summer transfer window. The deal is expected to run for two seasons, with only one outstanding condition preventing the Egypt international from signing officially.

That issue now appears to have been resolved. Turkish journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu reported that Trabzonspor have accepted a commercial term which could allow the transfer to be completed within the next few hours.

According to Sabuncuoglu, Salah will receive 20% of the income generated from products bearing his name that Trabzonspor sell in the coming period. The arrangement forms part of the forward’s contract with the club.

The same clause had previously been one of the reasons negotiations between Salah and Besiktas stalled, despite the two sides reaching agreement on most of the provisions in the proposed deal.

Salah’s future has been the subject of several changes in direction during the recent period. He was initially linked with a move to Besiktas, but those talks became complicated.

The Saudi Football Federation then made an offer to sign him, although Salah ultimately preferred a move to Turkey.

If completed, the transfer to Trabzonspor would make the club the seventh of Salah’s professional career. He began with Egyptian side El Mokawloon, before moving to Basel in Switzerland.

His career then took him to Italy, where he played for Fiorentina and Roma, followed by spells in England with Chelsea and Liverpool.

Liverpool was the most prominent stage of Salah’s career. He spent nine years at the club between 2017 and 2026, establishing himself as one of the leading players in world football during that time.

With Liverpool, Salah won the Premier League twice, as well as the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup once each.

His proposed move to Trabzonspor follows a period of uncertainty over both his next destination and the terms of his contract. The agreement over the merchandise revenue is now understood to have removed the final obstacle identified in the negotiations.

Salah will become one of the most high-profile players to join the Turkish club if the transfer is formally completed. Trabzonspor are awaiting the final steps before confirming the arrival of the former Liverpool star, who has chosen Turkey despite interest from Saudi Arabia and earlier discussions with Besiktas.
