Mohamed Salah reveals ‘mixed feelings’ over potential Liverpool reunion after Trabzonspor switch

Mohamed Salah has admitted he would have mixed emotions if his career eventually brings him face-to-face with Liverpool after making a surprise move to Turkish side Trabzonspor.

The Egypt international left Liverpool as a free agent in June, ending a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield that established him as one of the club’s greatest modern players.

Salah won two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League during his time on Merseyside, while also building a special connection with Liverpool supporters and the city.

Now 34, the forward has begun his new chapter in Turkey strongly, scoring three goals in his first five appearances for Trabzonspor.

Despite his immediate impact, Salah could not hide the emotional difficulty of potentially facing his former club in a competitive fixture.

“I would feel mixed feelings, because I’ve been there nine years.

“I love the city, I love the fans and we always had a special relationship. It would be very tricky.”

No Liverpool clash this season

A reunion between Salah and Liverpool will not happen this season because the two clubs are competing in different European competitions.

Trabzonspor are involved in the UEFA Conference League, while Liverpool are competing in the UEFA Champions League, ruling out a meeting between the Egyptian and his former employers in Europe this campaign.

Salah’s comments, however, underline the enduring bond he has with Liverpool despite bringing his hugely successful Anfield career to an end.

His departure marked the conclusion of one of the most productive eras in the club’s recent history, with the forward playing a central role in Liverpool’s domestic and European success.

Salah set for UK return

Although he will not face Liverpool this season, Salah will return to the United Kingdom for European football in 2026.

Trabzonspor have been drawn against Scottish club Hearts in the first phase of the Conference League, with the fixture scheduled for October.

That trip will give Salah another opportunity to play in Britain following his departure from Liverpool, although it will not provide the reunion with his former club that supporters may have imagined.

For now, the Egyptian is focused on establishing himself at Trabzonspor after an unexpected move away from the Premier League.

His fast start in Turkey suggests the veteran forward still has plenty to offer, but a competitive meeting with Liverpool would carry an emotional weight unlike any other fixture in his post-Anfield career.
