Mohamed Salah no-show leaves Cairo court oath dispute unresolved

Mohamed Salah did not attend a hearing at the New Cairo Court of First Instance on Sunday, where he had been expected to appear in person and take a decisive oath in a dispute over legal and administrative fees.

The Egypt international, identified in the case as a player for Turkish club Trabzonspor and a former Liverpool striker, is facing a claim brought by lawyer Amr Faragallah. The case concerns payment for legal work, administrative procedures and consultancy services, according to Cairo 24.

The court had previously scheduled Sunday’s hearing after Faragallah requested that Salah be ordered to take the oath. The procedure was intended to help settle the disagreement over whether the lawyer was entitled to receive the fees he is seeking.

Faragallah is asking the court to order Salah to pay outstanding sums for work connected with legal cases, administrative matters and legal consultations. He is also seeking compensation for material and moral harm that he says he suffered.

According to the documents filed in the case, the lawyer has requested compensation of 255,000 Egyptian pounds, as well as payment of court costs and legal fees.

Faragallah’s claim is based on a general power of attorney for legal matters which Salah issued in his favour on 20 July 2012. The lawyer says that authorisation remained valid until he relinquished it in August 2025.

The court set out the wording of the decisive oath that Salah was due to make. It included a denial that Faragallah had carried out the legal and administrative work at the centre of the dispute, as well as a denial that Salah owed him any money or fees arising from those services.

The court stated that if Salah failed to attend to take the oath, or refused to do so without an acceptable excuse, he could legally be considered to have declined the oath. In Egyptian legal proceedings, that status may affect how the dispute is assessed.

However, the court postponed a decision on costs and legal fees until a final judgment is issued in the case.

The hearing relates to a civil claim over the alleged financial obligations between Salah and Faragallah. The available details concern the disputed professional charges and the authority granted under the 2012 power of attorney.
