Mohamed Salah makes Trabzonspor switch after Liverpool free transfer

Egypt winger Mohamed Salah has joined Trabzonspor from Liverpool on a free transfer, bringing one of English football’s most decorated forwards to the Turkish Super Lig.

The 34-year-old, who plays primarily on the right wing and favours his left foot, completed the move on 4 August 2026. He leaves Liverpool after nine years at the club, having joined from Roma in 2017 for a fee of €42m.

Salah departs Anfield as a three-time English champion and a five-time Premier League top scorer. His honours with Liverpool also include the 2019 Uefa Champions League, the 2020 Fifa Club World Cup, one FA Cup, three League Cups and the 2019 Uefa Super Cup.

His individual achievements include two African Footballer of the Year awards and three Footballer of the Year awards. He won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2025, with his 29 goals in the 2024-25 campaign earning him another top-scorer award.

Across his Premier League career, Salah scored 193 goals in 328 appearances and supplied 95 assists. He also recorded 50 goals in 98 Champions League matches, underlining the level of experience he brings to Trabzonspor.

The forward’s European career began with Swiss club Basel, where he won two league titles before moving to Chelsea in January 2014 for €16.5m. Loan spells at Fiorentina and Roma followed, with Roma making the transfer permanent in 2016 for €15m.

Salah’s move to Trabzonspor comes after his involvement with Egypt at the 2026 World Cup. He started all five of the team’s possible matches, scoring once and providing two assists.

He has also been recognised with the Fifa Puskas Award and was named Premier League Player of the Year for the 2017-18 season. His achievements with Liverpool include the club’s first Champions League triumph of the modern era in 2019 and the Premier League title won in 2019-20.

Trabzonspor will now have the Egyptian international available as an experienced attacking option after his free-transfer departure from Liverpool. Salah’s switch to the Super Lig was completed on 4 August 2026.
