Mohamed Salah makes record-breaking start to Trabzonspor career

Mohamed Salah has made the most productive start of his European club career after scoring a hat-trick in Trabzonspor’s 4-0 victory over Galatasaray in the sixth round of the Turkish league.

The Egypt forward’s treble, scored before the international break, took his league tally to seven goals in six matches. That is a record at this stage of the season for Trabzonspor, matched only by former club striker Burak Yılmaz during the 2017-18 campaign.

Salah has also provided two assists, meaning he has been directly involved in nine goals during his opening six league appearances for Trabzonspor.

Turkish newspaper Hurriyet described that record as the best start of Salah’s professional career in Europe, highlighting the forward’s immediate impact since moving to the club.

“Although the Egyptian star made significant goal contributions in his first six league matches with various clubs, his time at Trabzonspor represents the peak of his excellence in this regard,” the newspaper reported.

Salah began his European career with Basel during the 2012-2013 season. He subsequently played for Chelsea, Fiorentina, Roma and Liverpool before joining Trabzonspor.

His latest scoring figures have also been placed in the context of his record in the Premier League, where he has won the Golden Boot four times.

Salah finished as the Premier League’s leading scorer with 32 goals in the 2017-2018 season, 22 goals in 2018-2019, 23 goals in 2021-2022 and 29 goals in 2024-2025.

Hurriyet said the forward had produced major goal contributions in the opening six league games of his spells with different clubs, but none had matched his current return of seven goals and two assists with Trabzonspor.

The 4-0 win over Galatasaray has therefore given Salah a league-leading total of seven goals after six rounds, while extending a start that Turkish media have described as unprecedented in his career.
