Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has cemented his place among the UEFA Champions League’s all-time greats by breaking into the competition’s top 10 scorers.
The Egyptian forward achieved the milestone during Liverpool’s victory over Girona in Catalonia on Tuesday.
Salah’s penalty in the sixth minute secured a 1-0 win for Liverpool, marking the team’s sixth consecutive victory in this season’s group stage.
The result also ensured their progression to the round of 16 as group leaders.
A milestone achievement
The goal against Girona brought Salah’s career tally in the Champions League, including qualifying rounds, to 50.
This achievement places him on par with AC Milan legend Filippo Inzaghi, though the Liverpool star edged ahead due to scoring fewer goals in qualifying stages.

Later the same evening, Salah was overtaken by French international Kylian Mbappé, who also reached 50 goals in the competition after scoring for Real Madrid against Atalanta.
Despite this, Salah’s historic feat underscores his consistency and prominence in European football’s elite tournament.
Climbing the rankings
Salah’s current record in the Champions League proper stands at 46 goals, leaving him just two strikes shy of breaking into the top 10 scorers without including qualifying matches.
He trails Ukrainian icon Andriy Shevchenko and Swedish forward Zlatan Ibrahimović, both of whom tallied 48 goals during their illustrious careers.
Mbappé, who has never featured in qualifying rounds, remains ahead of Salah in the rankings, further fueling the friendly rivalry between the two prolific forwards.
Continued excellence
At 32 years old, Salah shows no signs of slowing down.
His goal against Girona was his 16th across all competitions this season, achieved in just 22 appearances.
With 101 international caps and 58 goals for Egypt, Salah has become a symbol of footballing excellence both domestically and internationally.
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp praised Salah’s consistent impact following the match, emphasizing his leadership on and off the pitch.
As Liverpool prepare for the knockout stages of the Champions League, Salah’s presence will undoubtedly remain pivotal.
With only a handful of goals separating him from further milestones, the Egyptian forward continues to solidify his legacy as one of the competition’s finest performers.
