Mohamed Salah has been rubbish for the past months – Ex-Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann
Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has strongly criticised Mohamed Salah, claiming the Egyptian has been “rubbish” over the past 11 months and suggesting he may not return to Anfield after the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah stirred controversy last weekend following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United, in an explosive interview where he accused the club and manager Arne Slot of “throwing him under the bus.”
The forward had been left out of Liverpool’s midweek UEFA Champions League win over Inter Milan but was reinstated for the 2-0 Premier League victory against Brighton at Anfield.
With the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco approaching, Salah is set to join Egypt for the tournament. But Hamann, speaking about the striker’s recent performances, questioned his form and commitment.
“I don’t think we’ll see him in a Liverpool shirt again,” Hamann predicted.
“He’s going to the Africa Cup soon and I’m of the opinion that his time at Liverpool is over.
“He’s played rubbish for 10, 11 months. There were enough opportunities to put him on the bench. Until two weeks ago, the coach fielded him and gave him his trust. Then there was no other way.”
Hamann also criticised Salah’s timing, noting the club’s struggles: “Liverpool are under massive pressure. It’s not going well at all and then Salah can think of nothing better, after a game in which you concede the equaliser in the last minute, than to stand up and complain about his personal situation,” he added.
