Mohamed Salah equals Trabzonspor record with seven goals in six Turkish league games

محمد صلاح has matched a Trabzonspor scoring record that had stood for nine seasons after taking his tally to seven goals in the first six weeks of the Turkish top flight.

The Egypt captain scored a hat-trick as Trabzonspor beat Galatasaray 4-0 at home on Saturday, moving to the top of the league’s scoring charts and becoming the club’s most prolific starter in the competition since the 2017-18 season.

Salah made his first appearance for Trabzonspor in the opening week of the season, coming on in the 58th minute of their 1-1 draw away to Kasımpasa.

He opened his account in his second match, scoring twice against Basaksehir to secure a 2-1 victory. The Egyptian then found the net again in the following game, although Trabzonspor were beaten 2-1 by Amed Sportif.

His fourth league goal came from the penalty spot in a 5-0 win against Genclerbirligi in the fourth week of the campaign.

The forward completed his hat-trick against Galatasaray, adding three more goals to his total and taking his overall league tally to seven after six rounds of fixtures.

Salah follows Burak Yılmaz

According to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, Salah is only the second Trabzonspor player to score seven goals in the opening six weeks of a Turkish league season.

The previous player to achieve the feat was retired Turkey international Burak Yılmaz, who reached the same mark during the 2017-18 campaign.

Salah has scored 54% of Trabzonspor’s goals so far this season. Hurriyet also reported that he had surpassed the starts made by players including Alexander Sørloth, Cornelius, Anthony Nwakaeme, Hugo Rodallega and Paul Onuachu during their respective spells with the red-and-blue club.

His latest performance has added to the standout start made by the Egypt international since joining Trabzonspor, with the Galatasaray victory extending his early influence on the team.

The 4-0 result also gave Trabzonspor a decisive win over one of the league’s leading clubs, while Salah’s three-goal display established him as the early frontrunner in the Turkish league scoring race.

A Turkey legend has also described the forward as “Leo Salah” – a comparison presented as a reference for those who understand the significance of his performances.
