Mohamed Salah’s second-half penalty in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday evening not only helped secure three points for his team but also propelled the Egyptian forward into the upper echelons of Premier League history.
The goal, scored in the 70th minute, marked Salah’s 175th goal in the English top flight, tying him with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry for seventh place on the all-time Premier League goal-scoring list.
Salah’s strike from the penalty spot gave Liverpool a 2-1 lead, continuing his fine form this season and further cementing his place as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever scorers.
The 31-year-old has now scored 173 goals for Liverpool since joining the club in 2017, with an additional two goals scored during his brief spell at Chelsea earlier in his career.
This total sees him level with Henry, whose illustrious career saw him become Arsenal’s all-time leading scorer and one of the Premier League’s most feared forwards.
With his achievement, Salah moves into joint seventh place in the list of the league’s all-time top scorers, matching Henry’s tally of 175 goals.
The Egyptian now sits behind only a handful of footballing greats, including the likes of Wayne Rooney, Alan Shearer, and Frank Lampard, whose 177 goals currently place him sixth.
Salah’s remarkable consistency in front of goal has put him within striking distance of Lampard, who was known for his midfield contributions and knack for scoring from deep.
Salah, already Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer in the Premier League, continues to break records and achieve feats that have solidified his status as one of the best players to have ever graced the competition.
As Salah nears Lampard’s mark, the Egyptian forward remains on course to further enhance his legacy in the Premier League.
His ability to maintain his goal-scoring form at the highest level means he could soon be in sixth place, further erasing the distance between himself and the legendary figures at the top of the Premier League’s all-time list.
The question now is not if, but when, Salah will surpass Lampard, and who will be next in his sights as he continues his march up the ranks.
