Liverpool manager Arne Slot has lauded Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian forward matched Steven Gerrard’s Premier League assist record for the club.
Salah set up Virgil van Dijk’s decisive goal in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Sunderland on Wednesday, bringing his tally to 92 assists and equalling the mark held by the Anfield legend.
Speaking after the game, Slot said, “Salah has a lot of records with this club, but to share that record with a great player like Steven is something special. They were both amazing players for this club.”
“Unfortunately for Steven, I expect Mo to surpass him. I don’t just expect it, I hope he does.”
This season, Salah has featured in 26 matches across all competitions, scoring six times and providing seven assists.
He is expected to maintain his form when Liverpool face Brighton in the FA Cup this weekend.
Off the field, Salah has been linked with a potential move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.
