Mohamed Salah earns Premier League player of the month nomination after stellar start
Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for August, following an outstanding start to the season. Salah, who has been integral to Liverpool’s attack, registered three goals and three assists across his opening three matches, placing him among the league’s elite performers.
Salah began his campaign with a bang, contributing a goal and an assist in Liverpool’s victory against newly-promoted Ipswich Town.
He followed up with another goal against Brentford, continuing his run of form.
However, his standout performance came during the high-profile derby against Manchester United at Old Trafford, where Salah played a key role in all three of Liverpool’s goals, further bolstering his nomination credentials.
The Egyptian forward faces stiff competition for the award. Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is widely considered the frontrunner, having netted seven goals in just three games, including two hat-tricks.
Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo has also impressed, while Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer round out the nominees.
Salah’s history with the Premier League Player of the Month award speaks for itself.
He has won the accolade five times previously, first in November 2017, and then again in February and March of 2018, October 2021, and most recently in October 2023.
This remarkable track record places him just two awards behind record-holders Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane, who each boast seven titles.
Steven Gerrard and Cristiano Ronaldo are also ahead of Salah with six awards apiece.
While Salah’s impressive form in August has drawn attention, his immediate focus shifts to international duty.
Egypt are gearing up for two crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Cape Verde and Botswana on September 6 and 10, respectively.
As always, Salah will be a vital presence for his national team as they aim to secure qualification for the prestigious tournament.
This nomination underscores Salah’s continued excellence and leadership both at club and international levels, making him one of football’s most admired talents.
Whether or not he adds another Player of the Month award to his collection, his contributions to Liverpool and Egyptian football remain undeniable.
