Mohamed Salah continues to carve his name deeper into Liverpool history after matching one of the club’s most iconic Premier League records.
The Egyptian forward played a decisive role in the Reds’ narrow victory over Sunderland on Wednesday night, further strengthening his case among the club’s modern greats.
Salah delivered a precise cross that was expertly headed home by Virgil van Dijk, securing a 1-0 win for Liverpool in Wednesday night’s Premier League encounter.
The assist proved significant beyond the result, as it carried historic weight.
The contribution marked Salah’s 92nd assist for Liverpool in the Premier League since joining the club in 2017. According to Opta, the Egyptian international has now drawn level with Steven Gerrard as the player with the most assists in the club’s Premier League history.
What sets Salah apart is the speed at which he reached the landmark. He required just 306 matches to hit the figure, compared to the 504 appearances it took Gerrard to achieve the same tally during his illustrious Liverpool career.
Salah’s influence extends beyond Anfield. He has now climbed to seventh place on the Premier League’s all-time assists chart with 93 assists overall, having registered just one during his earlier spell at Chelsea.
In the process, he moved ahead of Gerrard and is now level with former Manchester City playmaker David Silva.
Another assist for Liverpool would see Salah stand alone as the club’s outright Premier League assist leader with 93, while also bringing him closer to Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, who sits sixth on the competition’s all-time list with 94 assists.
