Mohamed Salah delays decision on future until after 2026 World Cup
Mohamed Salah has confirmed that he plans to wait until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup before making a final decision about the next chapter of his career.
The Egyptian star played his final match for Liverpool FC on Sunday in a 1-1 draw against Brentford FC, receiving an emotional farewell from teammates and supporters at Anfield.
Salah Reflects on Nine Years at Liverpool
Salah leaves Liverpool after nine unforgettable years filled with major individual and team achievements.
Speaking to beIN SPORTS, the forward reflected proudly on his journey with the Reds.
“I have achieved everything with Liverpool, and I am proud of what I have accomplished. I feel that I have restored the club to the position it deserves among the elite,” Salah said.
He admitted that his final day at the club was emotionally difficult.
“My last day was very difficult psychologically. This is a place where I spent nine years. I spent my youth here, and when I look back, I find that I did everything I wanted,” he added.
World Cup Focus Before Transfer Decision
Salah explained that his immediate priority is representing Egypt national football team at the upcoming World Cup.
Egypt have been drawn alongside Belgium national football team, New Zealand national football team, and Iran national football team in the group stage of the tournament, which begins on June 11.
“I will see after the World Cup. If a good offer comes before the World Cup, I will discuss it. Otherwise, I will wait until the end of the World Cup to decide on my next step,” Salah explained.
European and Saudi Clubs Monitoring Situation
Recent reports have linked the Egyptian captain with interest from clubs in Italy, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia ahead of the summer transfer window.
Salah also expressed hope that more Egyptian players would follow his path into European football.
“I hope that many Egyptian players will turn professional and achieve the same accomplishments. I feel that I have opened the door for many. We have many talents in Egypt who need the opportunity, provided they work hard and make sacrifices,” he concluded.
