Mohamed Salah is on the verge of achieving a unique record with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations currently taking place in Morocco.
After Egypt’s 3–1 win over Benin in the round of 16, the Pharaohs booked a quarterfinal clash with defending champions Ivory Coast on Saturday.
Salah has become the player to score against the highest number of different national teams in AFCON history, sharing the mark for now with Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o, Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba and Ghana’s André Ayew. The Liverpool star has found the net against 10 different opponents across the 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025 tournaments.
He has scored 10 AFCON goals overall, placing him third on Egypt’s all‑time list at the competition behind Hassan El Shazly (12) and current national team coach Hossam Hassan (11). Across 22 AFCON matches, Salah’s goals have come against Ghana and Burkina Faso (2017), DR Congo and Uganda (2019), Guinea‑Bissau and Morocco (2021), Mozambique (2023), and Zimbabwe, South Africa and Benin in the current edition.
If he scores against Ivory Coast, Salah will stand alone as the player who has scored against the most different national teams in AFCON history.
