Mohamed Salah: Chelsea’s Egyptian Finally Exempted from Military Service

Mohamed Salah Cleared to Continue Career After Military Service Exemption

Chelsea midfielder Mohamed Salah has been granted a reprieve from mandatory military service in Egypt, allowing him to focus fully on his professional football career, the London club confirmed on Monday.

The Egyptian international had faced uncertainty over his future after reports emerged this weekend that he might be required to return home to complete his military obligations. According to Egyptian media outlet Kingfut, Salah had attempted to enroll in an educational institution, a common pathway for athletes seeking to defer service, in hopes of continuing his career in Europe. However, his registration was ultimately canceled, intensifying concerns over his availability.

The situation was resolved following intervention by the Egyptian Football Association and the Ministry of Higher Education, who worked to secure an exemption for the 22-year-old midfielder. This decision now enables Salah to remain with Chelsea and fully engage in the club’s pre-season activities.

Salah, who transferred from FC Basel to Chelsea in January for €14 million, departed for Austria on Monday to join the Blues’ ongoing preparations ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The exemption marks a significant relief for both the player and Chelsea, ensuring that Salah can focus solely on establishing himself in the Premier League without the disruption of mandatory military duties.
