Mohamed Salah breaks Liverpool Champions League record

Mohamed Salah has added another milestone to his remarkable career at Liverpool FC after setting a new club record for the most appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

The Egyptian forward reached the landmark during Liverpool’s first leg clash against Galatasaray SK in the round of 16 on Tuesday evening. Salah was selected to lead the Reds’ attack by head coach Arne Slot.

Statistics platform Opta Sports confirmed that the Liverpool star has now made 81 Champions League appearances for the club, making him the player with the most appearances in the competition in Liverpool’s history.

The achievement sees Salah surpass former Liverpool defender and club legend Jamie Carragher, who previously held the record with 80 matches.

Salah’s latest feat also comes amid recent criticism from Carragher, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports.

Despite the new record, the Egyptian international still has another major milestone within reach. Salah is just one goal away from scoring his 50th Champions League goal, a mark that would make him the first African player to reach that figure in the competition.

So far this season, Salah has featured in seven matches in the Champions League, scoring two goals and providing one assist as Liverpool continue their campaign in Europe’s elite club competition.
