Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah made history on Wednesday afternoon, becoming Africa’s all-time top scorer in the history of the World Cup qualifiers as he bagged a brace to lead his national team to a 3-0 victory against Djibouti.
The 33-year-old Liverpool forward struck twice to take his tally to nine goals in a qualifying campaign that began two years ago, sealing Egypt’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with one match to spare.
The goals today mean that Mohamed Salah has been unplayable in the World Cup qualifiers in the African campaign.
He has scored 20 goals and provided 12 assists after making 29 appearances for Egypt in the qualifiers.
His 20-goal tally makes him Africa’s all-time top scorer in World Cup qualifiers.

Twice named African Footballer of the Year, Salah’s brace came after Ibrahim Adel opened the scoring in the eighth minute.
The Pharaohs’ captain found the net six minutes later before adding his second in the 84th minute to complete a dominant display.
While Egypt have lifted the Africa Cup of Nations a record seven times, their World Cup appearances have been limited, qualifying only in 1934, 1990, 2018, and now 2026.
Salah’s latest milestone adds another chapter to his legendary career, cementing his status as one of Africa’s greatest-ever players.
Egypt’s qualification means Mohammed Salah will be making his second appearance with the Pharaohs at the World Cup.
