Mohamed Salah–Arne Slot meeting to decide Liverpool star’s immediate future
Mohamed Salah and Liverpool manager Arne Slot are set for a decisive discussion on Friday, with the outcome expected to determine the forward’s future at the club ahead of his departure for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Slot confirmed during a press conference that he will meet the Egyptian international to address growing uncertainty surrounding their relationship in recent weeks.
The Dutch coach indicated that the long-anticipated conversation is intended to bring clarity to a situation that has fuelled ongoing speculation.
I’m going to have a conversation with Mo this morning, and the outcome of that conversation will determine the situation tomorrow, Slot said.
The Liverpool manager stressed that further comment would only come after speaking directly with the player.
What I need is to talk to him. I think the next time I talk about Mo, it will be in his presence and not here. You can always try, but there isn’t much else to add, except that I’m talking to him today and, as I said, the outcome of that conversation will determine how things turn out tomorrow, he added.
Pressed on what the meeting would involve, Slot declined to reveal details but maintained that discussions over the past week had been extensive.
You can try different approaches, but I believe I said that the next time I speak about him, it will be in his presence. We spoke extensively last week after the Sunderland match. There were numerous exchanges between his representatives and ours, between ours and him, and between him and me after that match – and I will speak with him again today, he explained.
The timing of the meeting leaves Liverpool facing a potentially delicate few hours.
Salah, who has been a central figure for the club for several years, could make his final appearance for the Reds on Saturday when they meet Brighton in the sixteenth round of Premier League fixtures.
Should the situation take an unfavourable turn, a departure after the AFCON remains possible.
As Salah prepares for international duty with Egypt, Liverpool await the outcome of Friday’s discussion to determine their next steps in what has become one of the club’s most closely watched internal issues.
