Mohamed Salah aims for continued success after setting new Premier League record
Egyptian captain Mohamed Salah expressed his delight after establishing a new English Premier League record during Liverpool’s opening match of the 2024/25 season on Saturday.
Salah, the 32-year-old Liverpool forward, played a pivotal role in the Reds’ 2-0 victory over newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
His 65th-minute goal, which doubled Liverpool’s lead after Diogo Jota’s opener, not only secured the win but also etched his name into the Premier League history books.
With this goal, Salah became the league’s most prolific scorer on opening day, netting his ninth first-day goal, surpassing legends like Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, and Alan Shearer.
Reflecting on this achievement, Salah remained focused on the bigger picture.
“I don’t know! Hopefully, I’ll keep going like this through the whole season, not just the first game,” Salah commented on Liverpool’s official website.
“I try to help the team all the time. The most important thing is that the team wins the game.
I’m always happy to score goals and to give assists so I just need to carry on.”
Salah’s goal-scoring prowess has been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s success since he joined the club in 2017.
The match against Ipswich marked Salah’s 350th appearance in a Liverpool shirt, during which he has amassed an impressive 212 goals.
As he embarks on his eighth season with the Reds, Salah’s consistency and leadership on the pitch continue to be instrumental in the team’s ambitions.
Arne Slot, who recently took over as Liverpool’s manager, praised Salah’s contribution to the team’s victory.
“Mo has been exceptional since day one, and his ability to deliver in crucial moments is what sets him apart,” Slot said in a post-match interview.
“His record speaks for itself, and I’m sure there’s more to come from him this season.”
Salah’s latest milestone adds another chapter to his illustrious career, which has seen him earn numerous individual accolades and help Liverpool to multiple domestic and international titles.
As the Premier League season unfolds, fans and pundits alike will be watching to see if Salah can maintain his remarkable form and lead Liverpool to further success.
With this record-breaking start, Salah has set the tone for what could be another memorable season, both for himself and for Liverpool, as they aim to challenge for the Premier League title and other honors.
