Al Ahly have confirmed that playmaker Mohamed Magdy Afsha has joined Al Ittihad Alexandria on loan until the end of the current season, ending a memorable chapter in Cairo for one of their most influential midfielders.
The club announced that Afsha trained with the team at Mokhtar El Tetsh on Tuesday evening before saying goodbye to Danish coach Jess Thorup, his staff, and his teammates ahead of the move.
Afsha then shared an emotional farewell message to Al Ahly fans on Instagram, reflecting on the highs and lows of his journey with the African giants.
He wrote: “The journey had wonderful moments we lived together, whether the league title, the CAF Champions League or the Club World Cup. There were chances that were missed and others that changed history after becoming goals.” He added that he had always felt loved and well treated by “the greatest fans in the world” and described this as only a temporary goodbye.
Before leaving, Afsha agreed to extend his Al Ahly contract by one additional season. Al Ittihad have also strengthened their squad with loans for defender Khaled Abdel-Fattah and Abdulrahman Gouda, plus a permanent deal for midfielder Mahmoud “Dunga” and a loan for winger Yousri Wahid
