Mohamed Ihattaren confirms Fortuna Sittard exit ahead of summer transfer window
Mohamed Ihattaren has confirmed he will leave Fortuna Sittard this summer, indicating that his recent appearance may have been his final outing for the Dutch club.
Speaking after the match, the Moroccan midfielder said: “The fans were incredible, and I know this is my last match for Fortuna.“ The statement left little doubt about his intention to depart during the upcoming transfer window.
Ihattaren, 24, featured in the second half of Sunday’s away match against FC Utrecht after missing the previous game against PEC Zwolle due to injury.
Despite his recent fitness concerns, he said he wanted to return to the pitch one last time to support his teammates.
The midfielder has already made clear internally that he wishes to move on, with a departure expected as soon as the next transfer window opens.
He also noted that he still needs to regain full physical condition, while expressing hope that any move would allow Fortuna Sittard to receive appropriate compensation.
Ihattaren reflected on the emotional weight of his situation, admitting he had not yet fully taken in the significance of the moment. He added that he expects to miss his time at the club when he looks back on it.
His message also included appreciation for Fortuna Sittard head coach Danny Buijs. Ihattaren said the manager had supported him both on and off the pitch and played an important role throughout the season.
That acknowledgement comes as his future appears increasingly clear. Barring any unexpected change, Ihattaren is not expected to play again for Fortuna Sittard, with his focus now turning toward the next stage of his career ahead of the summer transfer window.
