Mohamed Helal: Egypt midfielder joins Qanah on free transfer from Modern Sport
Egypt attacking midfielder Mohamed Helal has joined Qanah on a free transfer from Premier League rivals Modern Sport. The 30-year-old, who plays primarily as a central attacking midfielder, makes the move after a year and a half with Modern Sport.
Helal arrives with extensive top-flight experience in Egypt, having made 240 Premier League appearances and scored 43 goals, as well as providing 18 assists. He has also featured regularly in domestic cup competitions, adding further goals and assists in the Egypt Cup and Egyptian League Cup.
The right-footed midfielder moved to Modern Sport in January 2025 from Bank El Ahly and now switches to Qanah with a current market value of 500,000. Before his spell at Bank El Ahly, Helal spent several seasons at Wadi Degla, establishing himself in the Egyptian Premier League after returning from Belgium.
Helals early career included time in the youth ranks of Lierse in Belgium, progressing from the under-19s to the under-21s before returning to Egypt to sign for Wadi Degla in 2015. Born on 8 October 1995 and standing at 1.78m, he adds experience and attacking creativity to Qanahs midfield options.
The move, completed ahead of the 202627 campaign, sees Helal officially registered as a Qanah player following his free transfer departure from Modern Sport.
