Al Ahly and veteran goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy have reached an initial agreement to extend his stay at the club beyond the current season.
The deal, brokered by Al Ahly’s sports director Mohamed Ramadan, ensures the 35-year-old shot-stopper remains a key figure for the Red Devils.
A source close to the negotiations dismissed recent reports about El Shenawy’s contract renewal status, confirming that discussions took place on Thursday, leading to a preliminary agreement.
“The contract will be for two seasons, with an additional optional year pending mutual agreement. El Shenawy is expected to sign within the next two to three days,” the source revealed.
El Shenawy’s new deal will place him among the club’s top earners, securing an annual salary of 20 million Egyptian pounds, along with an external advertising contract.
The Al Ahly board acknowledges El Shenawy’s loyalty, particularly his decision to reject lucrative offers, including a $3 million annual deal from Al Nassr two years ago, solidifying his commitment to the Egyptian giants.
