Mohamed Bayo’s form at Gaziantep fuels Guinea recall hopes

Mohamed Bayo’s prolific run with Gaziantep has strengthened his case for a return to Guinea’s national team ahead of the March international break.

The 27-year-old striker has been one of the most effective Guinean players in 2026, scoring 10 goals and providing one assist in 18 appearances for Gaziantep FK this season.

His latest decisive display came against Trabzonspor on Sunday, 22 February, where he made an impact despite his side’s defeat.

Currently on loan from LOSC Lille, Bayo appears to have rediscovered his scoring instinct in Turkey.

After a difficult spell in Ligue 1, where he managed just two goals in 12 matches during 2025, the forward has revived his confidence and output. His performances in the Turkish league have marked a significant turnaround.

Bayo’s recent form has been particularly notable. Across his last six league matches, he has scored four goals and contributed one assist, underlining his consistency in front of goal.

Such figures contrast sharply with his previous campaign and suggest he has regained the sharpness that once defined his game.

The striker, who has earned 29 caps for Guinea, last featured for the Syli National on 15 October 2024 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia. Since then, he has been absent from the squad.

With the March international window approaching, attention now turns to head coach Paulo Duarte and his selection decisions.

A recall for Bayo would represent recognition of his improved performances and sustained attacking contribution.
