Mohamed Bachir Belloumi commits to Hull City with contract extension through 2029

Mohamed Bachir Belloumi has signed a new contract with Hull City after making an encouraging start to life in the Premier League, with the Algeria international now tied to the club until June 2029.

The agreement, officially announced by Hull City this week, also includes the option of a further year. It represents a significant vote of confidence in the 24-year-old winger, who joined the Tigers a little over a year ago and has continued his rise in English football despite suffering a serious knee injury.

Belloumi’s new deal comes after reported interest from several European clubs during the summer, including Villarreal. The player has instead opted to continue his development at Hull City, where he has already established himself as a trusted member of the squad.

“Mohamed Bachir Belloumi a prolonge son contrat avec Hull City et poursuivra son aventure au sein du club, ou il jouit de la confiance de tous,” his agent Madjid Bouameur told Maghreb-Foot.

The extension rewards a player whose progress since arriving in England has not been straightforward. Belloumi suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in November 2024, forcing him to spend a lengthy period on the sidelines before gradually rebuilding his fitness and form.

He returned to make 25 appearances last season and played an important part in Hull City’s promotion to the Premier League, including during the play-offs. His performances helped the Tigers secure their place in the top flight and gave him the platform to continue his development at the highest level of English football.

Belloumi has made further progress since the beginning of the current campaign. He impressed during Hull City’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United and later supplied an assist against Coventry.

The winger has now made several dozen appearances for the Tigers in total and has produced an encouraging attacking return despite the injury setbacks that have interrupted his career.

His emergence is also timely for the Algeria national team. Riyad Mahrez’s international retirement after the 2026 World Cup, a decision his father Lakhdar Belloumi had endorsed, will leave an important opening on the right side of the attack.

Belloumi could now become part of an intriguing contest with Anis Hadj Moussa and Fares Ghedjemis to take on a more prominent role for the Fennecs.

Although his style differs from Mahrez’s, Belloumi offers a number of qualities Algeria will be looking for in that position. He can drive at defenders, deliver crosses, operate between the lines and create danger in the final third.

If he can maintain his run of appearances and performances in the Premier League, Belloumi may soon move beyond the status of a promising prospect and become a serious candidate to establish himself as a regular for Algeria.
