Mohamed Awad phones injured Petrojet player Ahmed Khaled after planned visit falls through

Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad has spoken to Petrojet forward Ahmed Khaled by telephone to check on his condition after the player suffered a serious injury in their teams’ match.

Awad had intended to visit Khaled in Alexandria on Wednesday, but the Petrojet player travelled to Assiut to undergo surgery instead. The Zamalek goalkeeper has promised to visit him at a later date.

Khaled was injured during a challenge with Awad in the match and suffered a fractured leg and torn ligaments.

He was taken to a hospital in Borg El Arab after the incident, where his leg was placed in a splint. He is due to have surgery in Assiut on Wednesday.

The injury occurred during the seventh round of the league, in which Zamalek returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Petrojet.

Ahmed Sherif scored the only goal in the 26th minute after a serious defensive mistake by Petrojet.

The result moved Zamalek on to 16 points and into third place, securing their fifth league win of the season.
