Mohamed Ahmed ‘Sharqia’ scores first Egyptian league goal for Modern Sport

Mohamed Ahmed “Sharqia” scored the first league goal of his career to put Modern Sport ahead against Petrol Asyut in the fifth round of the competition.

The defender rose to meet a cross and directed his header towards goal. The ball struck the Petrol Asyut crossbar before dropping over the line to give Modern Sport the lead.

Modern Sport went into half-time 1-0 in front, with Sharqia’s effort separating the teams.

The goal was the first scored by the defender in the Egyptian league. He has become an important part of Modern Sport’s squad under Moroccan manager Mohamed Amin Benhashim this season.

Sharqia had played every minute of Modern Sport’s opening four league matches without being substituted. The club had collected seven points from those games before facing Petrol Asyut in the fifth round.

Sharqia’s route to Modern Sport

Mohamed Ahmed developed in Al Ahly’s youth academy before leaving the club to join Diamond in search of regular first-team opportunities.

His performances for Diamond attracted the attention of Modern Sport, who signed him to strengthen their defence and provide his route back to the Egyptian league.

Sharqia is not the same defender who plays for ENPPI. He is another player who uses the nickname “Sharqia” and is a product of Al Ahly’s youth system.
