OGC Nice has confirmed the signing of Egyptian international Mohamed Abdelmonem from Al-Ahly. The central defender has committed to the French club until 2028, marking a significant step in his career as he embarks on a new challenge in European football.

Abdelmonem, who played a crucial role in Egypt’s run to the final of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, brings a wealth of experience and success to Nice.

At just 24 years old, he has already secured three Egyptian Premier League titles (2018, 2023, 2024) and two CAF Champions League trophies (2023, 2024) with Al-Ahly, cementing his reputation as one of Africa’s top defenders.

In a statement, Abdelmonem expressed his gratitude towards Al-Ahly, the club where he developed both as a player and as an individual. “I retain an eternal gratitude for Al-Ahly, with whom I grew up, as a player and as a man.

It was time for me to take on a new challenge in a big European club. I made the choice to join OGC Nice in order to take a new step in my career.

I thank the club for believing in me, and I thank Al-Ahly for making this transfer possible. I will give my all to make the supporters proud and to help OGC Nice achieve its goals,” said Abdelmonem.

The Egyptian defender, who has earned 25 caps and scored two goals for the Pharaohs, will now focus on integrating into Nice’s defensive setup.

His arrival is expected to bolster the Ligue 1 side’s backline, providing both solidity and leadership as the team aims to compete at the highest levels domestically and in European competitions.

OGC Nice, under the guidance of their management team, has been active in the transfer market this summer, and the acquisition of Abdelmonem represents a significant addition to their squad.

The club’s decision to secure a player of Abdelmonem’s caliber reflects their ambition to challenge for top honors and continue their growth in European football.

As Abdelmonem prepares to make his debut for Nice, the move is seen as an important milestone in his career.

His transition from African football to one of Europe’s top leagues will be closely watched, with many expecting him to make a substantial impact in Ligue 1.

For Nice, his signing is not just about adding a quality defender, but also about bringing in a player with a winning mentality and a track record of success.

With the deal now officially completed, both OGC Nice and Mohamed Abdelmonem look forward to a successful partnership that will hopefully bring further accolades to the club and allow Abdelmonem to continue his development on the European stage.
