Mohamed Abdelmonem chooses Nice future despite lucrative approach from Gulf
Mohamed Abdelmonem has turned down a lucrative offer from the Gulf and intends to remain with OGC Nice, despite receiving a direct proposal worth approximately €5m several weeks ago.
The Egypt international was the subject of concrete interest from the region, according to information from Cedric Rocancourt. The financial terms made the approach particularly attractive, but the central defender decided against accepting it.
Abdelmonem’s decision reflects his desire to establish himself on the French Riviera and continue developing his career in Europe. Having joined OGC Nice with the aim of taking the next step in his progression, he wants to complete his adaptation to the club and persuade the coaching staff that he deserves a prominent role in the squad.
The player’s stance brought the matter to an end before any discussions could take place between the clubs. No official negotiations were opened because Abdelmonem made it clear that he did not want to leave OGC Nice.
His current market value is estimated at €2.5m. The proposed €5m package would therefore have represented a significant financial opportunity for the defender, but sporting considerations have taken priority as he seeks to build his future in France.
According to exclusive information from Africafoot, Al Ahly were also interested in signing Abdelmonem. The Egyptian club likewise failed to convince the player, who rejected its proposal.
Abdelmonem’s choice means OGC Nice retain a defender who remains focused on competing for a bigger part in the team. His immediate objective is to continue settling into the club and demonstrate his value to the Nice staff rather than return to Egypt or move to another league.
OGC Nice are due to begin their French league campaign against FC Lorient very soon. The match will be the first round of the French championship, with Abdelmonem’s decision to stay coming before the start of the new season.
The betting company 1xBet has listed OGC Nice as the favourites for the fixture. Its published odds give Nice a price of 2.05 to win, while a draw is priced at 3.30 and an FC Lorient victory at 3.05. The company also promotes the option to download 1xBet.
For now, however, the main development surrounding Abdelmonem is his decision to remain at OGC Nice. Despite the approach from the Gulf and the reported interest from Al Ahly, the Egypt international has chosen to continue pursuing his ambitions on the Cote d’Azur.
