Mohamed Abdel-Shafy bows out as a Zamalek legend

Mohamed Abdel-Shafy has called time on a remarkable football journey, signing off with pride at his beloved Zamalek.

The veteran left-back leaves behind a legacy that stretches far beyond trophies, one built on loyalty, character, and quiet leadership.

Abdel-Shafy’s early steps were with Zamalek’s youth ranks, but his senior debut came elsewhere, first with Enppi, then a standout stint at Ghazl El Mahalla. He returned to Zamalek in 2009, embarking on a golden chapter that saw him deliver 10 goals and 14 assists in 158 matches.

He ventured abroad in 2015, excelling with Al-Ahli Jeddah and winning four major titles. A brief loan at Al-Ettifaq added more quality minutes to his journey. In 2019, he returned home to Zamalek, determined to finish where it all began.

Injury setbacks never dented his spirit. Known for his discipline, Abdel-Shafy led with humility, signing blank contracts, avoiding media feuds, and rejecting lucrative Gulf offers.

His 10 trophies with Zamalek and 2010 AFCON title with Egypt speak volumes. But more than silverware, he departs as a role model whose loyalty, ethics, and calm presence will echo at Zamalek for years to come.
