Mohamed Abdel Shafi has officially brought his long football journey to an end after helping Zamalek lift the Egyptian Cup against Pyramids.
The 39-year-old left-back confirmed his retirement just hours after the dramatic penalty shootout victory.
Abdel Shafi didn’t hide the emotion tied to his decision, calling it hard to step away from the club, fans, and stadium that shaped his career. “I don’t like to talk too much, but the moments of winning the cup were very difficult,” he said in a post-match interview.
A loyal servant of Zamalek, Abdel Shafi made his name as a reliable presence on the left flank. His career also saw him shine with Ahli Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and feature multiple times for the Egyptian national team.
“It is difficult to leave the stadium, the team and the fans,” he added. “But I am honoured to be one of the great Zamalek fans… I hope the club achieves more championships.”
The Egyptian veteran exits the game with grace, leaving behind a legacy of loyalty and quiet excellence.
